Alapa of Apa lays foundation for secondary school building in Apa Badagry

The Alapa of the Egun-Awori Kingdom in Apa, Badagry, Lagos Oba Oyekan Adekanmi on Wednesday officially laid the foundation for a new six-classroom block at Apa Secondary School, the first senior secondary in the town.

Speaking shortly after the foundation-laying ceremony, Oyekan said the initiative was aimed at ensuring a seamless transition for students graduating from the Junior Secondary School into the senior level.

The traditional ruler assured that
the community that the project would be completed in time for the commencement of the next academic session.

“For the past few years, Apa Junior Secondary School has been operational as a self-funded project before being taken over by the Lagos State Government.

“However, with students now set to graduate from the junior level, it became necessary to provide a senior school facility,” the monarch stated.

“Given the concerns raised by school authorities over the lack of classrooms to accommodate the pioneer Senior Secondary students, I felt compelled, alongside the community, to construct another six-classroom block.

“This project will be completed before the start of the new academic session.

“I sincerely appreciate the school’s management, especially the Principal and Vice Principal, for their perseverance and dedication throughout this process.

“The success of this school is a collective effort,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation-laying ceremony was attended by prominent community leaders and clergy members from the historic town of Apa, underscoring the significance of the event in the community’s educational development.

NAN that Apa Junior Secondary School, which was initially established as a self-help community project by the king and the people of Apa, has since been taken over by the Lagos State Government for proper administration.

NAN also reports that the school currently offers education from Junior Secondary School one to three, but the absence of a dedicated senior school facility has prevented its expansion. (NAN)
