Forum exonerates Seme Area controller over alleged supporting smuggling
Concerned Badagry Youth Forum on Sunday exonerated Comptroller Kayode Kolade, the Controller of Seme Command of Nigeria Customs Service of allegation of supporting smuggling activities in Seme and Badagry.
Mr Olatunji Andrew, the Chairman of the forum disclosed this during press briefing in Badagry.
According to the chairman, Kolade is a man of peace who always fight against smuggling of contrabands into the country.
“The controller has organised different sensitization programmes for the youths in border communities to discourage smuggling.
“He has always condemned illegality and encouraged people to follow right path in transacting businesses at the border post.
” How can Kolade who visited all traditional rulers in Badagry communities urging them to warn their children against involving in smuggling of contrabands suddenly turned against his principles,” he asked.
Andrew said “This is evil at work. We read on Facebook page that one journalist was mentioning names of controllers in Seme and Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja were supporting smuggling in Seme.
“As a youth forum, we have followed the activities of Controller Kolade since he assumed office in Sept.3, 2024, he had made 921 interceptions, consisting of various contrabands.
“This includes 40,671x 30 litres of jerry cans, 11,569 bags of foreign rice, 24 used vehicles and 1934 parcels of hard drugs amounting to
NI,895,175,942.00) only with 48 suspects arrested.
“The controller within for months of assuming office collected revenue of N7,166,576, 397.49 only which represented 80 per cent of the target performance”.
Andrew said that the achievements of the controller had spoken for him.
“We are urging the management of Nigeria Customs Service and the people of Badagry to disregard this write-up my undesirable element who keep on accusing people on Facebook on wrong allegations.
“We, members of Concerned Badagry Youth Forum absolved controller Kolade of supporting smuggling in Seme and Badagry.
“He has performed greatly in Same making smuggling of contrabands to reduce to minimal level and we want him to continue the good works,” he said.
